To get a flawless finish on any wrap project, whether you're tackling a car, a motorbike, a kitchen cabinet, or a piece of furniture, the golden rule is to measure panel by panel at their absolute longest and widest points, always adding a 10cm to 15cm (4 to 6 inch) buffer to every single side for handling, wrapping around edges, and trimming.

For flat architectural surfaces like kitchen doors or tabletops, measure the front face dimensions and add enough extra to wrap fully around the lips to the back edges. For the complex, sweeping curves found on vehicles and bikes, swap your rigid tape measure for a flexible tailor's tape; you need to measure the actual contours and deep recesses of the bodywork, not just the straight-line distance.

Once you have every piece mapped out on paper, calculate how they will lay out across a standard 1.52 meter (5 foot) roll, ensuring that any directional patterns, like carbon fiber weave or brushed metallics, are aligned to run the exact same way across the entire project.
